In 2016 I had the opportunity to speak at TEDx Totnes. In my speech, I discussed the danger behind judging myself based on what I do, rather than who I am. At my worst, "I was a human doing, not a human being."
Today, I believe that making careful choices about what we do is a way of expressing who we are. I've found a new perspective on the positvism of being a human being, doing things. It's like painting a picture: we use tools (paint, brushes, paper // money, the body, relationships) to express what we are (the final image // our human being). When I started thinking about what I was doing in such a way, my life changed from an endless ambition to a series of curious delights. Luckily, I often pursue delights that earn me an income. By reflecting on my activities through the written word, I build a bridge between my human doing and human being.
I recently heard a popular term: "multi-passionate entrepreneur." That basically means, "I pursue many interests and some of them make me money." I'm one of them. So when asked, "What are you doing?" by friends, family, and fiscal opportunities, I sometimes have difficulty answering.
This website is an expression of myself as a human doing. It's like my portfolio, stacking a pile of paint in front of someone who'd like to paint a picture with me. I hope that you will feel curious and inspired by this site. I hope that you will find on this site the information you need to hire me, take one of my classes, befriend me, or ask me more questions.
Are you doing what expresses your human being?
